What is Applied Behavior Analysis?

Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the leading behavioral intervention for individuals with developmental disabilities. ABA focuses on evidence based research in order to promote behavior change to improve the livelihoods of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. These methods include positive and negative reinforcement, prompting, natural environment teaching, discrete trial training, and maintaining and generalizing skills across all environments. Areas of focus include communication, social skills, daily living skills, and behavior interventions specific to each client’s individual needs.

How do we use ABA at Allison’s Therapy Corner?

After a free consult to ensure we are the best fit for your family, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will meet with you and your child to assess and create goals specific to your family and child’s needs. Our team of Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) and Behavior Therapists (BTs) will work on these goals daily with your child under the supervision of a BCBA. The focus will be meeting your child where their current skill set is and increasing these skills during their time in ABA. The clinicians meet with caregivers regularly in order to provide support and parent training within home and community settings. Goals are determined specific to the needs of the clients, as well as, goals specific to the caregiver’s needs.

Additionally, if your child is receiving additional services with ATC (ST/OT), all providers will collaborate

What is the ABA process?

1st STep

Initial consult. This is where we will take the time to get to know you, your child, and your needs better! We want to make sure we are the best fit for you and your child.

2nd Step

Initial Assessment. A BCBA will meet with your child and complete a full, individualized assessment in order to determine your child’s current level of functioning in order to formulate the best plan of care possible for your child. Part of this initial assessment involves an in depth parent interview in order for us to gain more understanding into your child’s level of functioning at home, school, etc. and to learn what specific areas you would like us to target/focus on.

3rd Step

Create an Individualized Treatment Plan. Once the initial assessment is completed, the BCBA assigned to your child will write/create a treatment plan outlining the goals we would like to help your child attain. Parents play a key role in this process and feedback regarding goals the family wishes to see met are welcomed and encouraged!

4th Step

Receive Authorization from Insurance. Once the treatment is approved by the parent, it is then submitted to insurance for approval. This can take 2-6 weeks depending on the insurance provider.

5TH STEP

Achieve your child’s goals! Your child will work one on one with an RBT/BT in order to help your child master the goals set by you and the BCBA. Throughout your child’s ABA week, they will have the opportunity to work with multiple RBT/BTs in order to: generalize skills across multiple therapists, target socialization/pragmatic skills across different therapists, and to adapt when routines are changed/altered, etc.

What can you expect as the parent?

As the parent, you can expect transparency always to your child’s care. At a minimum, we request that you attend parent training 1x/month, but sometimes more if requested by the BCBA or by you. You will receive a verbal recap of your child’s day from their RBT/BT, and will know exactly how your child is progressing through their plan of care.

At ATC, you can expect for your child to receive excellent, ethical, client/family based ABA services in the most naturalistic, homey environment that we can provide!

If you have questions about ABA, please do not hesitate to contact us! We want to help you understand what we do and how we can help your child and family!
